Introduction
The USTC Fellowship for undergraduate programs offers two levels:
- Level A, funded by USTC, includes a tuition waiver, comprehensive medical insurance, a monthly stipend of 2,500 RMB, and accommodation subsidies.
- Level B, also funded by USTC, includes a tuition waiver.
To apply for the fellowship, applicants must create an account in the USTC Application System and select the fellowship they wish to apply for. Applicants can apply for one or both levels simultaneously. USTC will determine which level of the fellowship to award based on the applicant’s overall qualifications. Each applicant can only receive one fellowship.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must be non-Chinese citizens with a valid passport and in good physical and mental health.
- Applicants should have passed the new HSK Level 5 or higher; those whose native language is Chinese or who can prove they studied at a high school where the teaching language is Chinese may apply for an HSK test exemption.
- Applicants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan must have acquired their foreign citizenship before April 30, 2021, and must have lived abroad for at least 2 years between April 30, 2021, and April 30, 2025 (living abroad for more than 9 months per year counts as one year).
- Applicants must meet the conditions set by Document No. 12 (2020) from the Ministry of Education of the PRC (Annex I).
- Applicants must have a high school diploma by July 2025 (equivalent to a Chinese high school diploma).
- Applicants must be under the age of 30 by September 1, 2025.
Note:
- Applicants graduating in 2025 should provide a Pre-graduation Certificate to ensure they will complete their studies and graduate by July 2025.
- Applicants who have already been awarded other Chinese scholarships or funds for 2025-2026 are not eligible to apply for this fellowship.
Application Timeline
- For enrollment in March 2025: Submit applications by January 12, 2025, with results announced in February 2025.
- For enrollment in September 2025: Submit applications by June 15, 2025, with results announced in August 2025.
Application Process
- Create an account in the online application system.
- Complete all required information and upload the necessary documents.
After submission, applicants should regularly check their email (used for login) for further instructions, interview invitations, and additional information.
Required Documents
- Application Form for International Students (Undergraduate Program) (Annex II)
- Photocopy of passport (including pages with Chinese visa or residence permit, if applicable)
- Notarized copies of senior high school graduation certificate and transcripts. If the applicant will graduate by July 2025, they must submit a Pre-graduation Certificate.
- Photocopy of HSK Level 5 Certificate and transcripts (original documents required upon registration if admitted), or proof of attending a high school where Chinese is the language of instruction.
- Foreigner Physical Examination Form (Annex III)
- Recommendation letter from senior high school (in Chinese or English)
- For applicants under 18 by September 1, 2025, a Guardian Statement (Annex IV) is required. The guardian must reside in Hefei during the applicant’s studies at USTC and have a stable income.
- Applicants from mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan must submit:
- Immigration certificate
- Proof of cancellation of original Chinese citizenship
- Photocopy of passport pages with exit/entry stamps from April 30, 2021, to March 31, 2025
- Proof of living abroad from April 30, 2021, to March 31, 2025
Note: Documents not in Chinese or English must be accompanied by notarized translations in Chinese or English.
Important: Application materials will not be returned, regardless of the application result.
