Dear Mr./Ms. ______,
As an empire spanning three continents—Europe, Asia, and Africa—the Ottoman Empire’s multi-ethnic and multi-cultural characteristics, as well as its position in global history, have increasingly attracted attention and discussion among scholars. Since its establishment in 1923, the Republic of Turkey has played an increasingly significant role on the complex international stage, thanks to its unique geographical, political, and cultural position. In recent years, the rise of global history has not only broken through traditional national and regional historical research frameworks, but also encouraged scholars to consider the complex relationships between empires and nation-states, global and local perspectives, and the East and the West. This has led to a re-examination of the history of the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
Forum Theme
Based on this context, the Center for Turkish Studies at Peking University, in collaboration with the Department of History at Peking University, is organizing the 4th “Ottoman-Turkish History Studies” Young Scholars Forum. This forum aims to provide a platform for young scholars and doctoral students both domestically and internationally, who are engaged in research on Ottoman Empire and Turkish history, to exchange ideas and engage in in-depth discussions, in order to improve overall research levels and cultivate talent in this field.
The theme for this year’s forum is “Ottoman-Turkish in Global History Perspective,” and it encourages empirical research based on primary sources, as well as theoretical reflections on related topics.
