I. Introduction

The University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) offers a Research Internship Program, providing graduate students or third/fourth-year undergraduate students the opportunity to participate in research projects. This program is designed to give participants valuable experience in cutting-edge research conducted at USTC.

II. Program Benefits

• Competitive Advantage: Build relationships with faculty and students, giving you an edge in applying for Master’s, Ph.D., or post-doctoral programs at USTC.
• Free Chinese Language and Culture Classes: Apply for Chinese language courses and explore the unique Hui culture.

III. Costs

• Tuition:
  • 2,100 RMB (≈ 304 USD) per month for undergraduate or master’s students
  • 2,600 RMB (≈ 377 USD) per month for Ph.D. students
• International Student Dormitory:
  500-1,000 RMB (≈ 73–146 USD) per month, depending on the room type and size.
• Insurance:
  160 RMB (≈ 23 USD) per month

Payment:
After admission is confirmed, applicants will be informed to pay the pre-registration fee of 500 RMB (≈ 73 USD) via online payment. Admission materials will be sent to students after payment. The remaining fees should be paid in RMB (cash or card) upon arrival on the registration day.

Refund:
The pre-registration fee is non-refundable. After registration, all fees are non-refundable.

IV. Scholarships

USTC offers limited scholarships for outstanding students. All applicants will be evaluated.

USTC Fellowship:

• Level A
  1. Tuition waiver
  2. Comprehensive medical insurance
  3. Free university dormitory
  4. Stipend:
     • 2,500 RMB (≈ 392 USD) per month for Bachelor’s students
     • 3,000 RMB (≈ 470 USD) per month for Master’s students
     • 3,500 RMB (≈ 550 USD) per month for Ph.D. students
• Level B
  1. Tuition waiver
  2. Comprehensive medical insurance
  3. Free university dormitory
• Level C
  Tuition waiver

V. Application Deadline

• For USTC Fellowship Level A:
  Applications must be submitted online between Jan. 1 – Mar. 31 (for the fall semester) and July 1 – Sept. 30 (for the spring semester).
• For USTC Fellowship Level B, Level C, or self-funded applicants:
  Applications should be submitted online at least three months before the start date.

VI. Internship Duration

3 months to 1 year

VII. Eligibility

1. Non-Chinese citizens with a valid foreign passport
2. Aged between 18-40 years
3. In good health
4. High school diploma or higher
5. No criminal record
6. Good command of English

VIII. Application Procedure

1. Applicants must first contact USTC professors in their field of research and obtain pre-acceptance before submitting an online application.Supervisors’ profiles: Supervisors’ Profiles

2. Complete the online application process:
   Register, select Non-degree program → Research Internship, fill in the application form, upload the required documents (fields marked with an asterisk are mandatory), and submit the application.

IX. Visa, Insurance, Food, and Accommodation

1. Visa
   Admitted students must submit the Visa Application Form (JW202) and the admission notice to the Chinese Embassy or consulate to apply for a Chinese Student Visa. Students must enter China with a valid Student Visa and ensure that it remains valid during their stay.
2. Insurance
   International students must purchase insurance in accordance with state regulations and USTC policies. Students will pay the insurance fee, and USTC will arrange for the insurance coverage.
3. Accommodation
   • USTC Fellowship Level A/Level B: On-campus accommodation is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. If on-campus housing is unavailable, students must find off-campus accommodation.
   • USTC Fellowship Level C/self-financed students: Students must find off-campus accommodation on their own, though assistance will be provided in locating housing.
     International students living off-campus must register with the local police station promptly. Full address and telephone number must be submitted during registration.
