Theme: Earth Science for a Shared Future


Program Overview

The University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) is a research-driven institution that focuses primarily on graduate education. The UCAS International Summer School (UCASISS) offers international students a real and enriching experience of graduate studies at UCAS. UCASISS 2025 will be co-hosted by The Alliance of National and International Science Organizations for the Belt and Road Regions (ANSO) and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU). The theme of the program is “Earth Science for a Shared Future,” aligning with the Open Science initiative to make science more accessible, inclusive, and beneficial to all.

This summer school will provide participants with the opportunity to explore advanced research in Earth Science at UCAS and the institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). Students will join a community of young talents committed to solving global challenges, supported by world-class laboratories, cutting-edge research facilities, and leading research teams, including postdoctoral researchers from around the world.

We invite global young talents to collaborate on addressing these challenges for a shared future.


Program Duration

  • Online Coursework (ZOOM): June 25th (Wednesday) – July 1st (Tuesday), lasting 7 days
    The schedule for the online coursework will be sent to all applicants by mid-May 2025. We welcome all interested parties to join the online courses, but note that space is limited, and attendance will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Onsite Research Project: July 5th (Saturday) – 11th (Friday), lasting 7 days
    The onsite research projects will be conducted at various host institutions. Applicants must select one institution when submitting their application. Detailed agendas for the onsite projects will be sent to selected participants by their respective host institutions before May 31st, 2025. Participants are advised to fly directly to the cities of their host institutions.

  • Engage in local Chinese cultural activities.

Eligibility

  • Must be a full-time graduate, undergraduate, or doctoral student at your home university.
  • Must have completed at least two years of undergraduate studies by the start of the onsite project (July 2025).
  • Should have a background in Earth Science, Environmental Science, Ecology, Biology, Chemistry, Physics/Mechanics, or related fields.
  • Strong academic performance and a passion for frontier research in Earth Sciences.
  • Proficiency in English.

Priority Consideration for:

  • Applicants from APRU members, ANSO members, and UCAS international partners.
  • Applicants with specific research experience and an interest in pursuing a master’s or doctoral degree at UCAS.

  • Proof of English proficiency (if applicable, not required for native English speakers or students from APRU partner universities).
