1. Program Description

Amid China’s rapid economic growth and rising international influence, Chinese law has become an essential field of study for international students and legal professionals engaged in business, cultural, academic, or political interactions with China.
To address this growing demand, Renmin University of China Law School launched the LL.M. Program in Chinese Law, providing students with a unique opportunity to gain first-hand knowledge of Chinese law from one of China’s premier legal institutions.

The LL.M. in Chinese Law is a two-year English-taught graduate program designed for students and professionals holding at least a bachelor’s degree.
The program aims to broaden and deepen participants’ understanding of Chinese law and legal practices, attracting intellectually curious candidates from diverse legal systems, professional backgrounds, and career aspirations.


2. Tuition

  • 70,000 RMB per academic year

3. Program Structure

The LL.M. Program in Chinese Law consists of three main components:

(1) Courses

Students must complete at least 34 academic credits:

  • Compulsory Courses: Minimum 21 credits
  • General Courses: Minimum 7 credits
  • Optional Courses: Minimum 6 credits

Course Schedule:

  • First Year: Students must complete all compulsory and general courses.
  • Optional Courses: Available in the first or second academic year (subject to change).

  • Introduction to Chinese Law
  • Chinese Business Law
  • Chinese Civil & Commercial Dispute Resolution
  • Chinese Contract Law
  • Chinese Corporate & Securities Law
  • Chinese Intellectual Property Law
  • Chinese Judicial System and Case Analysis
  • Chinese Property Law
  • Rule of Law and Society in Modern China

General Courses:

  • Chinese Language
  • Chinese Politics

Optional Courses (examples):

  • Chinese Criminal Procedure Law
  • Chinese Civil Procedure Law
  • Chinese Environmental Law
  • Chinese Fiscal & Taxation Law
  • Chinese Foreign Trade & Investment Law
  • Chinese Labor Law
  • Chinese Social Security Law
  • Chinese Tort Law
  • Chinese Trust Law
  • Comparative Legal Studies in East Asia
  • Comparative Politics in East Asia
  • China’s Anti-Corruption and Corporate Criminal Risk Prevention
  • Substantial and Procedural Issues in the Determination of Economic Crimes in China

(2) Internship

Students are required to complete an internship during the third semester, either in China or abroad.

  • Minimum duration: 4 weeks

(3) Thesis

In the second academic year, students must:

  • Write a thesis of approximately 20,000 words
  • Defend their thesis during the fourth semester
