National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (Overseas)

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for this opportunity, applicants must fulfill the following criteria:

• Adhere to Chinese laws and regulations while maintaining high ethical standards in scientific research.
• Be born on or after January 1, 1985.
• Hold a PhD degree.
• Specialize in Natural Sciences or Engineering Technologies.
• Must have held a formal teaching or research position at an overseas university, research institute, or corporate R&D department for at least 36 consecutive months after obtaining their PhD and before April 15, 2025. Exceptionally qualified candidates with overseas doctoral degrees may have this requirement adjusted (this does not apply to those who obtained degrees through China-foreign joint programs).

📌 Important Notes:

• Any concurrent salaried employment in China during the overseas tenure will not count toward the overseas work experience requirement.
• Candidates should have peer-recognized research or technological achievements and demonstrate high potential to become a leading scholar or top talent in their field.
• Applicants should not have returned to China for full-time work before applying or should have returned on or after January 1, 2024. Successful candidates must resign from overseas positions and commit to full-time employment in China for at least three years upon receiving funding.
• National science and technology talent program policies apply, meaning individuals can only hold one project at the same level within these national initiatives and cannot apply retrospectively for lower-level programs.
