About CESI

The 18th China Economics Summer Institute (CESI) will take place on August 23–24, 2025, at the School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University. This will be an in-person event.

CESI’s mission is to foster a global network of top-tier scholars dedicated to advancing research on Chinese economic development. (Past working papers can be found here).

This initiative is co-sponsored by the following leading institutions:

  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong-Tsinghua University Joint Research Center for Chinese Economy
  • The Center for Economic Policy at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • Guanghua School of Management, Peking University
  • Stanford Center on China’s Economy and Institutions (SCCEI), Stanford University
  • School of Economics and Management, Tsinghua University

The event is also held in collaboration with leading global research networks, including BREAD, NBER, and CEPR.


Call for Submissions and Participation

We welcome submissions from scholars who wish to present their work, as well as those interested in attending and exploring research opportunities related to China’s economy.

CESI seeks to bring together scholars from across the globe and foster supportive mentoring networks for early-career researchers.

Seminar presentations will be held during the event, and senior scholars will be available for one-on-one consultations with junior scholars. On the afternoon of August 24, participants are invited to join an optional field trip to local firms.
