📘 Program Overview
The WIPO–China (ECUPL) Summer School on Intellectual Property is a dynamic, two-week academic program designed to provide participants with in-depth knowledge of key issues in intellectual property (IP) and a deeper understanding of WIPO’s roles and global functions. This program is especially suited for graduate and postgraduate students, young professionals, and government officials seeking to expand their expertise in both foundational and emerging IP topics.
This year’s edition will highlight IP protection in the music industry, in alignment with World IP Day 2025.
📚 Topics Covered
The curriculum combines lectures, case studies, simulation exercises, and interactive group discussions. Key subjects include:
- Copyright in the Age of Artificial Intelligence
- Patent Protection of Standard Essential Patents (SEPs)
- IP Protection of Datasets and Trade Secrets
- Licensing and Commercialization of IP
- Regional IP Frameworks: A Comparative Perspective
- IP Litigation: Legal and Procedural Dimensions
- IP Arbitration and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR)
Participants will also take part in a moot court session judged by senior Chinese judges or an arbitration simulation led by professional arbitrators. Onsite participants will enjoy additional benefits, such as field visits to AI firms, leading music and gaming companies, law firms, and judicial bodies in Shanghai.
🏫 Format and Location
- Hybrid Mode: Attend in person at ECUPL in Shanghai or online via Zoom
- Onsite participation is encouraged, as only onsite attendees will be eligible for the two-day company and institutional field visits
📍 Note: Onsite participants are responsible for their travel, accommodation, and daily expenses. ECUPL will offer logistical support, including accommodation suggestions and access to campus facilities.
🎓 Certification
All participants who meet the program requirements—such as attending at least 80% of sessions and actively contributing—will receive an official Certificate of Participation.

🏥 Health and Insurance
All onsite participants must:
- Present a valid medical certificate upon arrival
- Provide proof of medical insurance coverage valid in China for the entire duration of the program
